Cllr Tom Hughes

Cllr Tom Hughes

Tom grew up in the Preseli, briefly heading North to study at Aberystwyth University before returning home. He is passionate about the area and believes strongly in protecting local services, supporting communities and ensuring that everyone has a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

Tom is a Fishguard and Goodwick Town Councillor, a serving Army Reservist and a volunteer with Fishguard Sea Cadets. He has also worked as a caseworker for Jane Dodds, then Liberal Democrat Senedd Member for Mid & West Wales, helping constituents navigate challenges and access the support they need. As the Staff Member for the Young Liberals, Tom works to encourage more young people to get involved in politics. He believes that young people's voices deserve to be heard and is keen to ensure that MPs, councillors and other decision-makers listen to their experiences, ideas and concerns.

Tom joined the Liberal Democrats in 2015, drawn to the party's values and its commitment to fairness, community and giving people a stronger voice. He believes that politics should be about listening to people, understanding the challenges they face and working together to make a practical difference.

Tom has been involved in local campaigns across both Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, including opposing Plaid Cymru's closure of care homes in Ceredigion and calling for improvements to public transport and the retention of services at Withybush Hospital. His local campaigns include fighting for cleaner rivers and seas and calling for better evening and night bus services connecting communities across Pembrokeshire. He is particularly passionate about ensuring that people in rural areas aren't left behind when it comes to accessing essential services and opportunities.

When he's not busy with his community commitments, Tom enjoys watching Star Trek with his family, tabletop gaming and exploring the local area on walks with his girlfriend, Toyah, as part of her physiotherapy.
